Separate the formwork face from the supporting system
Our PE sheet range covers material options for fabrication and lining. For a proposed concrete-contact panel, confirm the exact polyethylene grade first. HDPE describes density, while HMWPE and UHMWPE refer to molecular weight; these names are not interchangeable evidence of a panel’s performance.
A polyethylene sheet may be considered as a contact face or liner, but it is not a complete formwork system on its own. The panel, frame, ties, supports and concrete-placement sequence must be assessed together. We review sheet specifications and drawing-based processing for quotation; suitability of the formwork arrangement remains a project-design question.
What to specify for the concrete-contact panel
Start with the panel’s intended role and supporting arrangement. Describe where it contacts the concrete, how it is held in place and what finish the completed pour requires:
- Handling and machining: confirm panel dimensions, weight, cuts, holes and edge details, together with the unloading and assembly method.
- Geometry and support: specify thickness, dimensional tolerances, support spacing and fixing positions. Low water absorption alone does not establish flatness or stiffness under load.
- Concrete finish and release: identify the required surface finish, concrete mix and stripping method. Decide with the project team whether a representative panel and trial casting are needed; a smooth sheet does not prove casting accuracy or remove the need to assess a release agent.
For chemical exposure, provide the substance, concentration, temperature and contact duration so the proposed grade can be checked. Before reuse, set inspection and rejection criteria for wear, scratches, deformation, edges and fixing holes rather than assuming an unlimited number of cycles.
Check the complete formwork arrangement
Give the responsible designer the proposed material data and assembly details. The system assessment should cover:
- Panel stiffness and deflection, including thickness and support spacing
- Fresh-concrete pressures, vertical loads and the proposed placement sequence
- Fixings, joints, ties, support conditions and the stripping sequence
When comparing polyethylene, plywood or steel options, compare the specified panel and supporting system, not just material names. Panel data, backing, connections and the intended pour determine what needs to be checked; we do not infer an allowable pressure or span from sheet thickness alone.
Include the working temperature range and duration of loading in the review. Ask the designer to account for material-specific behaviour and dimensional movement when choosing the support and fixing arrangement.
Agree the panel specification before ordering
We can review the requested grade, dimensions and drawing-based processing and confirm the proposed supply scope. A decision to use the sheet in formwork needs project-specific design and validation; describing a pour as small, short-term or low-load is not sufficient on its own.
A sheet specification is not a formwork design. Confirm both the panel material and the complete supporting system for the intended pour.
Project sheet supply and fabrication
- Sheet specification and machining: confirm the material grade, thickness, dimensions, colour, cuts, holes and any CNC machining in the quotation.
- Inspection and documents: agree dimensional tolerances, surface checks, identification and the available document scope before production.
- Export packing: confirm protective wrapping, pallet or crate requirements, pack quantities, marking and the delivery destination.
