Four checks for reusable ground protection panels
We manufacture HDPE ground protection panels for temporary access and ground covering. A useful specification goes beyond “heavy-duty” or “all-terrain”: it describes the material, expected traffic, supporting ground and surface conditions. This guide explains four checks to discuss with us before choosing a panel configuration.

1. Material and handling requirements
Tell us the operating temperature range, outdoor exposure period and any contact with chemicals, including the substance, concentration and duration. The offered HDPE grade and any outdoor-use requirements need to be confirmed for your order. The material name alone does not establish resistance to every chemical or prolonged UV exposure.
For handling, compare panel dimensions and weight with the unloading area, route and available equipment. Agree on lifting, placement and retrieval methods before delivery rather than assuming every panel can be carried by hand. Include the crew and equipment needed in your installation plan.
2. Traffic loads and supporting ground
Provide the vehicle or machine type, total operating weight, wheel or track contact details and expected number of passes. Load distribution and the supporting ground matter alongside panel dimensions. Discuss the proposed arrangement with the project team; a thickness or HDPE material label is not a universal load rating.
Soft ground, slopes, voids and standing water require site-specific assessment. Ground protection panels do not turn an unsuitable base into an engineered working platform. Keep ground preparation, drainage and any structural support design separate from the panel purchase, particularly where cranes, outriggers or excavations are involved.
3. Surface condition and traffic control
Specify the surface texture and required grip assessment for the intended users, footwear or tyres. Mud, oil, standing water and wear can change how the surface performs. Do not treat a textured finish as guaranteed slip resistance under contamination; include cleaning and surface checks in the site plan.
Plan pedestrian and vehicle routes, panel edges, transitions and any connection details needed for the arrangement. Route inspection and traffic management remain site responsibilities. A removable covering is one part of the access plan, not a guarantee that slipping, skidding or other incidents cannot occur.
4. Inspection, recovery and reuse
Before reuse, arrange cleaning suited to the panel and contamination, then inspect the surfaces, edges and any connection points. Set aside panels with damage or deformation for assessment. Plan storage and recovery, and check the requirements of the next site rather than assuming the previous arrangement remains suitable.
Compare total project costs, including unloading, installation, cleaning, replacement, transport and recovery. Our guidance on remote-site delivery and recovery planning covers those logistics. Reuse may be part of your purchasing plan, but financial savings and environmental outcomes need project-specific evidence.
Match the panel specification to the job
Bring the four checks together: material and exposure, traffic and ground, surface condition, and recovery. We can review the requested panel dimensions, finish and drawing-based processing as part of the quotation. The proposed supply specification should be agreed before production, while the project team confirms the access arrangement and conditions of use.

Details for a bulk panel order
- Dimensions and processing: panel thickness, length, width, colour and finish; drawings for holes, edges or other processing, with the offered scope confirmed in the quotation.
- Inspection requirements: agree the dimensions, surface checks, identification and any requested records for the order before production.
- Export packing: confirm protective wrapping, pallet or crate requirements, pack quantities, marking and the unloading arrangements at the destination.
Request a factory quotation
To discuss your order, send us the required material and exposure conditions, panel thickness, dimensions or drawing, quantity and delivery destination. Include the intended traffic, ground and surface conditions, plus any recovery or reuse requirements. We will confirm the offered configuration, minimum order quantity, packing and lead time in our quotation.
