A custom HDPE sheet order is more than a request for a non-standard size. The supplier must understand the application, grade, thickness, surface, tolerance, fabrication, inspection, packing and delivery terms. Missing one of these items can turn a low unit price into rework, scrap or delays after arrival.
Zhihong Plastic supplies HDPE sheet and drawing-based cut parts for industrial buyers. This page explains how to prepare an RFQ and how we review a custom order before quotation. Available grades, dimensions, colors, processing and minimum order are confirmed against the final specification.

What can be customized?
| Item | Examples | What the buyer should specify |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet format | Full sheet or cut-to-size panel | Nominal and finished length, width and thickness |
| Grade | General industrial, UV-stabilized or application-specific grade | Service conditions and required documentation |
| Color and surface | Natural, white, black, colored, smooth or textured | Color reference, face requirement and acceptable variation |
| Cut features | Holes, slots, profiles, radii and countersinks | Drawing dimensions, datums and tolerances |
| Machining | Pockets, grooves, routed edges and finished components | CAD/PDF drawing, finished thickness and inspection points |
| Fabrication | Welded or assembled components | Joint design, loads, medium, temperature and acceptance criteria |
| Packing | Sheet stacks, cut parts or labeled kits | Destination, unloading limits, labeling and surface protection |
Not every option is available in every thickness, color or order quantity. We confirm feasibility, tolerance, material availability and lead time before the order is accepted.
Choose the grade before choosing the price
“HDPE sheet” is not a complete material specification. Outdoor panels may need a suitable UV-stabilized grade; food-contact projects require grade- and market-specific documentation; chemical equipment needs the exact chemical, concentration and temperature; wear parts may require comparison with UHMWPE.
Send the intended use and the evidence your quality team needs. Do not assume that a color, brand name or generic test report covers the ordered formulation. If the material is still undecided, review our HDPE vs PP vs PVC selection guide or ask us to compare available options against your service conditions.
Sheet dimensions and tolerances
Separate nominal stock size from required finished size. Extruded sheet, sawn blanks and CNC-finished parts do not normally use the same tolerance. Identify the dimensions that affect fit, alignment, sealing or assembly and define a realistic inspection method.
- Nominal sheet thickness and acceptable thickness range
- Finished length and width
- Flatness requirement and how it will be measured
- Hole or slot position from defined datums
- Edge condition, corner radius and burr requirement
- Critical machined dimensions and surface finish
Tighter tolerances increase inspection and processing effort and may require a thicker starting blank. Provide functional tolerances instead of applying the tightest value to every dimension. Our HDPE thickness guide explains how support, load, temperature and machining allowance affect selection.
From drawing to quotation
- Send the controlled drawing. Include revision number, units, material, quantity and critical tolerances.
- Describe the application. State load, temperature, chemicals, outdoor exposure and any compliance requirements.
- Confirm the supply scope. Clarify whether you need full sheets, cut blanks, machined parts, welding or labeled kits.
- Review open points. We check manufacturability and clarify material, tolerance, inspection and packing before a final quotation.
- Approve the order specification. Make sure the quotation and purchase order refer to the same drawing revision.

Inspection that prevents disputes
Define acceptance criteria before production. Depending on the order, inspection may include material identification, quantity, thickness, overall dimensions, critical machined features, visual condition, color, labeling and packing. If you need a report, specify the measured items, sampling plan and required format in the RFQ.
For a new machined component, a sample or first-article review can reduce risk before volume production. Whether this is practical depends on tooling, quantity, delivery schedule and shipping cost, so request it during quotation.
Export packing and delivery details
HDPE sheets are dense and can be scratched or damaged at edges during handling. Packing should match the sheet size, part geometry, transport method and unloading equipment. Tell us about forklift or pallet-size limits, maximum package weight, moisture protection, surface-film needs and labeling before the packing plan is confirmed.
To compare landed cost correctly, state the Incoterm, named port or place, destination postal code where applicable and whether freight is included. Production lead time and transit time should be shown separately.
Complete RFQ checklist
| Application | Function, load, temperature, chemicals, wear and outdoor exposure |
|---|---|
| Material | HDPE grade if known, color, surface and required documents |
| Dimensions | Thickness, length, width, finished part geometry and tolerances |
| Processing | Cutting, drilling, routing, CNC machining, welding or assembly |
| Quantity | Sample/first article, initial order and expected repeat volume |
| Quality | Inspection points, sampling, records and labeling |
| Files | PDF plus CAD file where available; include drawing revision |
| Delivery | Incoterm, destination, packing limits and required date |
Zhihong Plastic offers industrial HDPE sheets and custom processing subject to specification review. Sending the complete checklist helps us return a comparable quotation instead of a price based on assumptions.
Frequently asked questions
Can you quote from a photo?
A photo helps explain the application, but it does not define dimensions or tolerance. Add a dimensioned sketch or drawing for a reliable quote.
Do custom colors require a minimum order?
Often yes, but the minimum depends on grade, color, thickness and production route. Send a color reference and quantity for confirmation.
Can full sheets and machined parts ship together?
This may be possible after reviewing sizes, weights, surface protection and loading. List each item and quantity so the packing arrangement can be checked.
