HDPE Access Panels for Road Construction: Specification Guide

Specify the panel material and the construction route

HDPE and UHMWPE are distinct polyethylene material designations, not interchangeable names for one panel grade. For roadworks, confirm the material of the offered panels as well as their dimensions, surface and connection details. A polymer name alone does not establish a panel system’s load capacity or suitability for a route.

Black textured panels stacked on a workshop floor

Temporary access in road construction can include delivery lanes, service-vehicle routes and pedestrian crossings. Plan the surfacing for the actual traffic and supporting ground. Panels do not replace subgrade preparation, drainage work or the design of a permanent road.

We supply HDPE panels for temporary access and ground protection. Send us the route requirements so we can discuss the supplied configuration and any requested processing. If your specification calls for UHMWPE, confirm availability and the proposed grade with us before ordering.

Five checks before selecting roadworks access panels

    1. Traffic and contact loads
Identify delivery trucks, plant and pedestrians, including turning, braking and stopping areas. Provide relevant tyre, track or outrigger contact information for the site assessment; total vehicle weight is not a universal panel load rating.
    2. Panel specification and condition
Confirm the supplied material, dimensions and connection arrangement. Specify the inspection requirements and check for damage before use. Do not assume a panel is crack-proof or suitable for extreme mechanical loads because of its material name.
    3. Surface and contamination
Choose the surface for the intended traffic and conditions. Mud, slurry and loose debris can affect its suitability, so include cleaning and inspection in the route plan. Texture does not guarantee grip in every condition.
    4. Handling and storage
Confirm panel weight, lifting arrangements, available equipment and storage space. Plan installation and relocation for the actual panel dimensions rather than assuming all panels can be moved by hand.
    5. Recovery and further use
Plan removal, cleaning, inspection and storage after the works. Reuse depends on panel condition and the next route assessment. Ask about appropriate recovery or disposal arrangements rather than assuming a universal recycling option.

Match the panels to the roadworks access layout

    • Delivery and service routes
Mark the planned route, traffic types, turning areas and transitions to existing surfaces. Review weak or wet ground before allowing the intended traffic to use a panel-covered route.
    • Crane and concrete-pump operating areas
Keep these areas separate from ordinary access surfacing. Equipment configuration, ground support and contact loads require their own assessment; purchasing access panels does not approve an operating platform.
    • Shoulders, excavations and drainage
Identify road edges, trenches, drains and soft shoulders on the layout. Panels are not excavation support and do not prevent erosion or edge collapse. Ground stability and drainage need separate site decisions.
    • Detours and crossings
Define who will use the route, its interfaces and how access will be controlled. A temporary panel surface alone does not make a detour ready for public traffic or remove the need for site approval.

Our ground protection mats and access panels can be discussed for the specified route. We confirm the offered panel dimensions, surface and processing scope separately from the contractor’s ground preparation and traffic arrangements.

Information that helps us review your enquiry

    • Describe the supporting surface, wet or weak areas and any preparation planned before panels are laid.
    • Provide a route sketch showing shoulders, drainage features, excavations, crossings and areas where panels must not be placed.
    • List the vehicles or plant, their relevant contact information and any locations used for turning, reversing or stopping.
    • State the expected period of use and planned inspections after heavy rain, excavation or changes to the route.
    • Describe the lifting equipment, storage area and intended installation, relocation and removal methods.

Send us the route sketch and panel requirements

A route sketch helps us discuss panel quantities, dimensions and any drawing-based processing.
Send your roadworks requirements to our factory with the traffic and ground information; keep route approval and equipment-platform design with the responsible site team.

Confirm the offered configuration before ordering

    • Panel and processing details: specify thickness, length, width, colour, surface finish and any holes or machining shown on your drawing. We confirm the configuration and processing that can be offered for the enquiry.
    • Inspection and documentation: agree the dimensional, surface and identification checks required for the order. Confirm which inspection records or material documents can be supplied before placing it.
    • Export packing: discuss pallet or crate requirements, panel count, handling access, marking and the delivery destination. Packing and loading arrangements are confirmed for the order.
