Confirm the Material and Thickness
20mm (2cm) identifies thickness. The PE grade, formulation and sheet construction determine how the panel performs. Specify HDPE when that is the required material, and identify whether the order is for flat sheet, machined parts or textured ground protection panels.
Check Fire Performance
For underground mines or other regulated sites, state the fire requirement and request evidence for the exact offered grade and test thickness. A 20mm specification alone does not establish flame retardancy or fire resistance.
Confirm Electrical Requirements
If electrostatic control is required, define the resistance requirement and test method. Check the offered formulation and installation requirements. Anti-static, dissipative and conductive grades have different characteristics; none provides a blanket guarantee against ignition or explosion.
Compare Wear and Service Conditions
Wear life depends on contact surfaces, movement, abrasion, contamination and the selected grade. Compare sheet data and, where needed, a representative trial. Increasing thickness alone does not establish longer service life.
Review Loads and Ground Support
For ground access, provide vehicle weight, axle or track loads, contact area, turning and braking, and ground conditions. Thickness, panel dimensions, connections and soil support work together. A thickness value cannot provide a universal vehicle capacity.
Specify Texture and Slip Testing
Texture may improve grip, while mud, water, oil, frost and wear affect performance. State the vehicle or footwear, slope and expected conditions. Agree any required slip or traction test before ordering.
Plan Handling and Reuse
Confirm panel dimensions and weight, handling holes, connectors and packing. Inspect surfaces, edges and connection points before reuse. Recyclability and recycled content are separate requirements; state the required material declaration.

For underground use, review the specific polyethylene road mat offer against project requirements and available documents. Fire and electrical properties, mechanical suitability and installation each need their own acceptance criteria.
