Calculation: Mass (kg) = Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (mm) × Density (kg/m³) ÷ 1000
For an assumed sheet size of 1220 × 2440 mm, area = 2.9768 m². With an assumed density of 950 kg/m³, mass (kg) = 2.9768 × thickness (mm) × 0.95.

The last column illustrates only a ±0.5 mm thickness change at fixed dimensions and density; it is not a supply tolerance. Actual net mass depends on the measured dimensions and material density. For freight, confirm packed gross mass, including the pallet, protection and other packaging.
Thickness tolerance, flatness and machining
- Machining: Distinguish raw-sheet thickness tolerance from finished-part dimensions. For engraving, slots or mating parts, provide the drawing, machining allowance and required final dimensions.
- Fit: ±0.5 mm on a 12 mm nominal thickness is approximately ±4.2% thickness variation, not a strength or stiffness rating. Holes, slots and mounting allowances need the actual geometry, temperature range, support and loads.
- Inspection: Agree measuring locations, equipment, support and acceptance limits before production. If a dimensional report or color assessment is needed, specify its method and scope so we can confirm what will be supplied.
What affects a comparable quotation
- Material and color: Compare the same grade, color, additives and any UV or application-specific requirements; do not compare differently specified sheets by price alone.
- Thickness and tolerance: Thickness changes material quantity, while required dimensional control and surface criteria affect production and acceptance.
- Fabrication: Identify cut sizes, holes, edge treatment, drawings and whether dimensions refer to blanks or finished parts.
- Batch size: Quantity, the number of colors and production setup affect the order. Confirm the minimum batch for each requested combination.
- Packing and transport: Compare sheet count, pallet dimensions, protection, packed mass and the actual delivery destination.
- Commercial basis: State currency, quotation validity and the agreed Incoterms 2020 rule with its named place or port. Confirm which transport and other charges are included.
Choosing between HDPE, UHMW-PE and PP
- HDPE: Consider the proposed grade for general sheet fabrication or machined parts. Select thickness from the component requirements, not the 4 × 8 ft sheet format alone.
- UHMW-PE: Often considered for wear liners and sliding components. Review wear, friction, load and temperature for the grade; our UHMWPE temperature and fit guide discusses expansion and creep.
- PP: Consider a suitable grade for applications involving heat or chemical contact, but do not assume universally better chemical resistance than HDPE. For tanks, specify the chemical, concentration, temperature, contact time, loading and welding or structural design.

Can you meet a tighter thickness tolerance?
Send the required upper and lower thickness limits, nominal thickness, sheet size and measurement conditions. We review feasibility and confirm the offered tolerance in the quotation; the ±0.5 mm weight illustration above is not a standard production promise.
What should I specify for outdoor sheets?
Describe sunlight exposure, temperature range, intended use and color requirements. Identify the UV or weathering documentation you need so we can review the available grade. Sheet color alone does not establish weathering performance.
Can the sheets be cut and drilled?
Send the drawing or cut list with hole positions, edge details, dimensions and tolerances. We confirm the cutting or machining scope and quote it separately where required. Distinguish the blank size from the final component size.
How are minimum order quantity and lead time confirmed?
We confirm them for the requested grade, thickness, color, quantity and fabrication scope. Ask for the minimum batch by color and a schedule that distinguishes production, machining and dispatch; the shipping arrival date is a separate matter.
