HDPE Sheet 4×8 (3/6/10/12 mm): Tolerance, Weight & Price Factors
At Zhihong Plastic, we manufacture 4×8 ft HDPE sheets (≈1220×2440 mm) for signage, fabrication, tanks, liners and OEM parts. Below is a clear, engineering-first guide you can use for RFQs and purchasing. We include our factory reference tolerances, real weight calculations, and the pricing variables we actually use in quoting.

MOQ | 30–50 sheets / color | Mixed colors allowed |
Lead Time | 7–15 days | By color and volume |
Weight per Sheet (4×8 ft)
Our formula: Weight(kg) = Area(m²) × Thickness(mm) × Density(kg/m³) ÷ 1000
For 4×8 ft, Area = 1.22 × 2.44 = 2.9768 m²; Density(HDPE) ≈ 950 kg/m³ → Weight ≈ 2.9768 × Thickness(mm) × 0.95.
Thickness | Nominal Weight / Sheet | Weight Window (±0.5 mm tol.) |
---|---|---|
3 mm | ≈8.49 kg | ≈7.07–9.92 kg |
6 mm | ≈16.97 kg | ≈15.55–18.40 kg |
10 mm | ≈28.29 kg | ≈26.85–29.73 kg |
12 mm | ≈33.95 kg | ≈32.51–35.39 kg |
Weight varies with actual thickness, density and environment. For freight planning, we can quote per-sheet average and pallet totals.
Why Tolerance & Flatness Matter in Real Work
- CNC consistency: A tighter thickness window gives predictable engraving depth and cleaner passes.
- Assembly fit: ±0.5 mm at 12 mm is ~±4.2% section change—design slots instead of tight holes.
- How we check: We map 8–16 points per sheet, measure flatness on granite, and check ΔE for colored sheets.
Price Factors — How We Build Your Quote
- Resin & color system — Natural/black usually lower; custom color & UV add cost.
- Gauge & tolerance — Heavier gauges and tighter tolerance raise resin usage & scrap control.
- Processing — Cut-to-size, rounded corners, drilling, protective film.
- Batching — Small runs or frequent color changes increase purge loss.
- Packing & logistics — Film, corner protectors, pallets, export packing, freight lane.
- Terms — EXW/FOB/CIF and currency affect landed cost.
HDPE vs UHMW-PE vs PP — When We Recommend Each
- HDPE — General fabrication, good rigidity, easy machining; best value for most 4×8 projects.
- UHMW-PE — Wear strips & chute liners (abrasion/low friction). Mind creep at elevated temperature—see our UHMW-PE temperature guide.
- PP — Better heat & chemical resistance than HDPE; consider for hot-wash and chemical tanks.

FAQ
Can you hold tighter thickness than ±0.5 mm?
Yes. On select gauges we can run tighter control with a tolerance surcharge. Tell us your machining need and we’ll confirm feasibility.
Do you supply UV-stabilized outdoor grade?
Yes. Outdoor grade is available and commonly used for signage/playground panels. Expect a small premium.
Can you cut to size and drill holes?
Yes. Send drawings or a cut list. We’ll nest parts to reduce waste and quote separately for machining.
What’s your usual MOQ and lead time?
MOQ 30–50 sheets per color; typical lead time 7–15 days depending on color and volume.
